The Trail Winder Underquilt combines the protection of an underquilt protector with the warmth of Climashield® Apex synthetic insulation to create a lightweight, efficient hammock insulation system.
Available in Regular Asym, Broad Shoulders Asym, and Full Width configurations, it can be configured to prioritize lower weight or greater coverage.

Choosing Your Configuration
Regular Asym — The insulation is cut to match your preferred lay direction, reducing both weight and packed size.
Broad Shoulders Asym — Adds 6" of additional shoulder width for broader users or those wanting additional upper-body coverage.
Full Width — Provides more uniform insulation for those who change positions during the night or do not have a dedicated lay orientation.

How The Quilt Fits Your Hammock
Select the length of the hammock you plan to use with your Trail Winder. The underquilt will be sized approximately one foot shorter than your hammock. If you need a different coverage length, contact me before ordering.

Modular Insulation System
The Trail Winder can accept an optional insulated Modular Add-On that attaches to the base quilt with a series of snaps, allowing you to increase insulation without purchasing another complete underquilt.
Standard Trail Winders do not include the attachment snaps. If you may add a modular layer later, select the snap-only option when ordering so the quilt will not need to be returned for modification.
Temperature Estimator

Temperature ratings are general comfort estimates. Individual comfort, weather, hammock setup, clothing, and other conditions can affect performance. SLD does not provide temperature estimates below -20°F.

Super easy to use. Setup is very fast, basically just clip the mini-biners to either end of your hammock and you're good to go. There's no need to fiddle with anything during the night, everything stays in place and keeps you warm. I was a little worried whether the asymmetric cut would be wide enough when I ordered. But I've used this on a few trips now and have been warm and comfortable every night so far. The 40F comfort rating feels accurate to me. I'm also really happy with how light and packable it is. My UQ is actually just slightly lighter than advertised which will make it great for backpacking.
I live in the Amazon rainforest where hammocks are a necessity and a vital part of everyday life. In the southern part of the Amazon basin it can get cold enough to make one wish for an underquilt, but in general, an extra set of clothes and a light blanket will work. However, the other issue is the mosquitoes. Permethrin is not easily available here and there are questions about daily exposure. So I have the lightest Trail Winder UQ Jared makes. It takes the chill out so I can carry less night-time clothes in my pack plus I get the added benefit of that extra layer between me and the mosquitoes...including those carrying malaria. Thank you, Jared, for this great product.
Best quilt I own hands down. Great design and excellent craftsmanship. I love that I don't have to fiddle around with this quilt at all. No migrating down, no chasing cold spots. 11/10
I grabbed the trail winder UQ with the removable second layer of insulation. It's perfect for me. I took it out for some November camping in the PNW. It rained every night I was out and the UQ got wet from splashing and humidity but I wasn't wet in my hammock and I was warm as can be. I didn't even know the UQ was wet until I thought to check.
The process of ordering and receiving the UQ was nothing short of exceptional. I would 100% recommend both the product and brand. You can't go wrong and if you manage to order something incorrectly Jared will make it right.
I love these so much I have two! One in 3.6 and one in 7.5. The 3.6 is super lightweight and pack down really small. Perfect for most camping I do 45-75F. The 7.5 is still very light in Argon 90, but is a little more bulky although it compresses down once in your pack. I have yet to test 7.5 low limits but based on others and comparisons with other quilts 20F should be easily doable. Attention to detail is top notch and you will not regret purchasing.
